Art in Port meeting

Looking forward to “Coexistence” the artists meet at Pino Pascali Foundation

A meeting to design a multicultural dialogue: it takes place from May 9th to May 10th 2014 in Polignano a Mare (BA) at the Pino Pascali Foundation, directed by Rosalba Branà. The “Art in Port” meeting will host two days of debates, thoughts and presentations. Journalists, scholars, art critics, museum directors and artists are involved. The meeting focuses on the Adriatic scene; creating a dialogue on the topics and the characteristics that unite the territories of this Adriatic area such as history, stories, myths, legends, migrations and nomadism, that go beyond any cultural barrier.

The discussion is chaired by the art historian and critic Christian Caliandro and starts on Friday May 9th at 4,30 pm with the institutional greetings and an introduction. Then, Enrica Simonetti, editor of the cultural pages of the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno and writer, renowned for her research on the Adriatic Lighthouses (from Venice to Albania). The sea, the correspondence between the banks, is one of the key themes that have characterized the Adriatic coast in recent decades. Subsequently Marco Scotini, curator of contemporary art who has been following with interest the work of artists from Eastern Europe with famous or cutting-edge exhibitions, will talk.

Their interventions are therefore an important source of thinking for the artists invited and their research. The artists are indeed the protagonists of the debate on May 10th. They are involved in the “Coexistence: for a new Adriatic koiné” exhibition as a part of the arTVision project, coming from Montenegro, Croatia, Albania and, of course, Italy (all partners involved in this important workshop). Territory, boundaries, otherness, hybridity and multiculturalism toward a new Adriatic koinè are the keywords of the discussion which also involves the project coordinators and the curators.
