#01 Tirana / Coexistence

#01 Tirana: first stage of ART IN PORT /Coexistence: for a new Adriatic Koinè”

The charming location of the Piramida in Tirana, one of the iconic buildings of Hoxha's former dictatorship, still involved in a complex project of recovery, will host the first of the five stages of the contemporary art exhibition "ART IN PORT - Coexistence: for a new Adriatic Koine", which, between August 2014 and March 2015, will involve artists from the five partner countries of the exhibition: Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy (Veneto and Apulia).

Working together to give voice to art, to multiply its visions, to create a narration with many voices, connected together into a large Adriatic and transmedia network.

The exhibition is part of the project "arTVision. A live art channel" funded by the European IPA Adriatic CBC Programme 2007/2013, with the purpose of activating and connecting the creative energy of young artists invited to participate as protagonists.

It is an experimental project, led by Puglia Region - Area Policies for the Promotion of Territory, Knowledge and Talent with technical support by Apulia Film Commission, which involves: Pino Pascali Foundation Museum of Contemporary Art; Veneto Region - Direction of cultural and performance activities; Academy of Fine Arts of Venice; Ministry of Culture of Montenegro; Faculty of Dramatic Arts of Cetinje – Montenegro; Ministry of Culture of Albania; University of Arts of Tirana - Albania; Primorje-Gorski Kotar County – Croatia; Kanal RI - Croatia.

The core idea is to establish a strict dialogue among cross-border Nations through a set of cultural actions, aimed at finding out commonalities and discontinuities among peoples sharing the Mare Nostrum of the Adriatic Mediterranean. There are five versions of one exhibition in different locations and territories with the aim of stating the concept of a new linguistic Koine which is capable of translating territorial identities into the dynamics of relationship, open-mindedness and comparison.

The artists from different geographical areas, coordinated by a team of curators, headed by the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation, in collaboration with the coordinators of the partner countries, have dealt with such shared topics as stories and narrations, myths and legends, spirituality and religions, migration and nomadism, with the aim to strengthening the idea of a common Europeanness too often forgotten.

Tirana will be the first Capital to host the show "Coexistence" from 1st to 24th August. The exhibition is curated by the critic and curator Roberto Lacarbonara, in close collaboration with the University of Arts of Tirana (contact persons: Prof. Vladimir Myrtezai Grosha and Prof. Pjeter Guralumi) and the GKA - National Gallery of Tirana (contact person: Ardian Isufi).
