Dani’s philosophy

Endri Dani, showing his art in the exhibition “Coexistence: for a new Adriatic koiné”

“The condition of being an Albanian artist in his land”.Albanian artist Endri Dani’s philosophy in five questions’ interview.

What is the starting point of your work?

My educational background as a painter permeates my photographs and installations overwhelming the techniques over a number of different mediums (found objects, artefacts of ordinary life, cultural history, souvenirs, etc.). My research mostly deals with the condition of being an Albanian artist in his land, an issue that concerns quite everybody who lives in Albania. Furthermore, my work underlines in-depth some of the paradoxes of my country. Just by being inspired by subjects close to me, or stories arising from my everyday life, I let all these insights slide poetically towards a sort of fictional space where everything is possible (i.e. the series Palimpsest; the video Suvenir i atDHEUT; or the photo series 182 cm).

What are the tools, the techniques by which you prefer to work?

Videos, photos, objects, drawing.

What future plans are there in your drawer?

Secret ;)

Which are the contemporary artists whose work you admire?

Francis Als, 70-80 years of Marina Abramovic & Ulay, Adrian Paci, Alberto Garutti.

What books do you read?

Theoretical, political, philosophical …

ph. Endri Dani, Star negative, 2013, installation, frame video
